Jungle Joe

I was on my way to Joe's trailer one night in the fall of 1972. As I approached the railroad crossing on Broadway in Estero, I came across a car going forward and back, forward and back, forward and back. As I got closer, the vehicle drove away and I noticed that they had just killed a large rattle snake with their tire. When I got to Joe's trailer, I told him what I had just seen. He said, "Quick, let's get in the car and go down there!" To my surprise, Joe got down on his knees in front of my headlights and cut off the rattlers, skinned the snake, bagged up the snake meat, and took it back to the trailer and put it in his freezer. From that day forward, I never ate at any of Joe's cookouts at the trailer!
