Obituary for George Napoleon Garland

George Napoleon  Garland
Retired USMC Sgt. Major George Napoleon Garland, 83, of Franklin, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009.
Born in Winston Salem, NC, he was the son of the late Lester Pulaski Garland and Cuthel Myers Garland. George was a retired USMC Veteran, having served 30 years and served during WWII. He served in campaigns of Guadalcanal, Okinawa, Australia and China. He was a member of the Little Tennessee River Association; loved to work in his yard, planting flowers and shrubs and enjoyed following his Family’s Genealogy. He was of the Methodist Faith.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Julia Elizabeth Anderson Garland; two daughters, Karanne Georgette Garland Tucker and husband Larry Wayne Tucker of Sylva and Sharanne Elizabeth Garland Murphy and husband Timothy Daniel Murphy of Brunswick, GA; three grandchildren, Michael Patrick Murphy, Katherine Elizabeth Murphy Thompson and Kerri Elizabeth Tucker.
A Graveside Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Head of Little Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Steve Reeves will officiate with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Smoky Mountain Marine Corps League.
Memorial donations can be made to the Lewis Rathbun Wellness Center, 121 Sherwood Road, Asheville, NC 28803. Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
