Obituary

Nantahala, NC: William "Billy" Nathan Stewart passed at age 45 on Friday the 30th of September, 2022, in his second hometown of Nantahala, North Carolina. He is best remembered fishing and hunting with his son, Elijah Stewart, trying to convince his daughter, Abigail Stewart, classic rock is better on tapes or vinyl, educating and befriending generations of Trade and Industry students, serving our country, coaching after his own athletic achievements in high school, and always getting a laugh. Will was born in Shelby, NC, to Harold Nathan and Brenda Gail York Stewart. After high school he first attended Brevard College and later transferred to Appalachian State University where he earned his Bachelors degree. He taught vocations at several schools but primarily at Nantahala School. He also served his country as a member of the National Guard. Will absolutely adored his children. Eli's favorite memory is his dad allowing him to drive when they went fishing in Pumpkintown to celebrate his sixteenth birthday. Abby's favorite is her dad letting her skip school to go bear hunting which included a five mile hike. Will had a great personality. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always looking for a laugh either because of him or with him. He was a caring soul, not only about his family but also about his students. He wanted to give them the best start in choosing which vocation they planned to pursue. Will enjoyed a variety of music, but hard rock and country music were his favorites. He loved animals, especially goats and wild animals. He doted on his Redtick-Treeing Walker mix hound named Sara. Will is survived by his children, Abigail "Abby" Grace Stewart and Elijah "Eli" York Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents along with his siblings, Harold Brian Stewart, and an infant sister, Lisa Renee Stewart. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Watauga Baptist Church. Rev. Wesley Price will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by VFW 7339/American Legion 108 Honor Guard and the United States Army Honor Guard. Moffitt Family Funeral Care is honored to serve Mr. Stewart's family.
