IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Arnold
Shower
September 20, 1940 – February 27, 2026
William A (Bill) Shower passed from this earth and into the arms of our Lord, on February 27, 2026, with Ann, his loving wife of 30 years, by his side. He passed away at Mission Hospital after a devastating stroke.
Son of William A. Shower and Marjorie Shower, Bill was born September 1940, in Illinois. He was raised predominantly in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. Though he had been a part of Macon County for decades, Oklahoma was home. When in high school his family moved to Florida.
As a teen he developed his skills in reporting and photography while working for local papers. After graduating, Bill decided to join the US Navy. Opting for a position in intelligence to capitalize on his photography skills, he rose to the rank of Photographers Mate First Class before applying and being accepted into a Commissioned Officer program. Upon completion of the program, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy. He retired, after 31 years on active duty as a full Commander, United States Navy.
Bill loved the US Navy, serving all over the globe, including the Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam, alongside the marines of 3rd Mar Div, and aboard several ships. He was also the Commanding Officer of two shore commands.
Upon his retirement from the US Navy, Bill returned to Kentucky and began teaching Industrial Arts at Eastern Kentucky University (his alma mater) for four years. At that time, he chose to move to Macon County to assist his mother and father. While in the area he began work as a carpenter helping to construct several homes in the Franklin area.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Majorie and William A Shower Sr., and his brother, Edmund Shower, and nephew Edmund Glenn.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Ann, his children and their families, William A Shower III, Martha Garrison (Robert), and Michael Victor Shower, Ann's children Bryce, Bobby, and Charles and their families, and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Other survivors include his sister, Gwendolyn S. Woodruff (Richard) and her family, Richard L Woodruff, Jr (Cheryl), Luke Woodruff (Kelly), and Matthew Woodruff (Stephanie Weaver), his deceased brother Edmund's children Whitney Dunbar (Bart), Michael Shower (Michelle), Bryan Shower (Jeanne) and Kevin Shower (Cindy).
Beloved husband, father, and friend, Bill was never too busy to help someone who needed his wisdom and guidance. He was his wife Ann's greatest cheerleader and was a proud supporter of her veterinary clinic and staff. He will be missed by those of us privileged to know him. Rest in peace, Skipper. You are relieved of your post. Fair Winds and Following Seas.
