William Gurdine Crawford, Jr, 81, of Franklin, NC, passed away on May 23, 2024. He was a Macon County native born in 1943. William (Bill), known for his love of history and geography, served as a High School Social Studies teacher until retirement when he drove the school bus and worked on the Nantahala River. He had a passion for education and was committed to his community and the school system.
William proudly served in the Army for three years, demonstrating his commitment to his country and was a very proud NC State graduate.
In his free time, William enjoyed playing pickleball, square dancing, and being a local activist. He was very active politically, loved working the elections and talking about politics. His All Saints Episcopal Church family was deeply important to him and kept him active in his later years with the "Picklepalians". He also had a keen interest in family history, cherishing moments with his loved ones and his grandchildren were the love of his life.
William will be deeply missed by his children Nick (Sharon), Rebecca (Brendan), Sam (Kim), sister Sue (Wesley), Panthea (ex-wife), and grandchildren Makenna, Nolan, Pádraig, Elias and all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, William G Crawford Sr and Katherine.
