Wayne Edward Burgess, 84, passed away on December 19, 2025, at The Hermitage in Sylva, NC.

Born on September 28, 1941, in Anniston, Alabama, Wayne was the son of the late Austin and Ruth Hanvey Burgess.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and by his son, Barton Burgess.

Wayne dedicated more than 35 years of his career to Scotty’s Home Builders, where he retired as District Manager. He was known for his strong work ethic, steady leadership, and the respect he earned from colleagues throughout the region. Outside of work, Wayne found joy in the simple pleasures of life especially fishing and he remained steadfast in his Baptist faith.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Carol Newell Burgess; his son, Clinton Burgess (Lisa); and two grandchildren, Cline Burgess (Shannon) and Stacie Burgess.

The family will hold private services at a later date to honor Wayne’s life and legacy.
