Juanita's love for music started when she was a young child sitting on her grandfather's lap singing as he played the banjo. In third grade, she began taking piano lessons and her love for playing the piano lasted a lifetime. When she was 13, she moved to Franklin, NC where her father served 9 methodist churches in the Macon Circuit. She played on the first women's basketball team at Franklin High School. After high school graduation, she attended Pfeiffer College and studied Religious Education, graduating with honors. Juanita married her high school sweetheart Boyd Lee in 1950. They would have celebrated 75 years of marriage this September. She raised 4 children mostly in other parts of the world due to her husband's military career. After Boyd's retirement, they returned to Franklin, NC and built the house they lived in for the remainder of their lives. Boyd and Juanita loved to travel and RV'd around the U.S. up until their 90. While working at Maco Crafts, she became an avid crafter which included quilt making & weaving. She made at least one quilt for every child, grandchild and great- grandchild. She made many lap quilts for the nursing homes. Juanita and Boyd were very active in the community and started two clubs, western square dancing and Military Retirees. Juanita was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years where she served as the pianist. During her lifetime, Juanita was very active in her church, as the pianist, choir member and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Emmaus community. She worked alongside Boyd in sponsorship of 72 children and fundraising for the Shriners Children's Hospital in Greenville. Her home was always a warm & loving place. She was a friend to many and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Angel Mission Hospital for the excellent compassionate care she received during her illness. Also, her care givers from Comfort Keepers and Patton Methodist Church for the numerous meals provided over the past year since her stroke.
