Obituary

Tracy Ray Tallent was born in Sylva, NC, on October 6, 1957. He was the son of Barbara Edwards Tallent and Daniel Tallent. He was welcomed at once into his extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. On Monday, October 10, 2022, Tracy was escorted into Glory and rejoined those who had loved him so well and gone on before him. Tracy worked at Franklin Body Shop while he was in high school; then, upon graduation, joined the United States Air Force. After his discharge he returned to Franklin and his former job. He was a skilled auto body technician and a dependable employee. Tracy could have made a million dollars on any game show that asked questions about actors or films. He was a true fan and a walking encyclopedia. He especially loved sci-fi with Star Wars and Star Trek being his favorites. He enjoyed tinkering and built many models of props for those two series. Tracy married the love of his life 21 years ago. They shared a love of animals, and Tracy had a great time being in charge of his pack. He especially loved Lucky the pup and Jasper the cat. He was a pet pushover who was scolded by the vet for his generous treat distribution technique. Tracy had many admirable qualities. He loved his family, he was humble, he minded his own business, he didn't demand attention, he was a good listener, and he didn't want to be a bother. In the last few days of his life he kept apologizing for his illness and anxiously wondering if those he loved would be all right without him. Tracy is survived by his wife, Kathy Tallent; his stepson, Robbie; his sister-in-law, Kristeen; his nieces and nephews, Cliff, Kristin, Karen, and Justin; his aunt, Helen Carpenter; and two special cousins, Terri Hunter and Eddie Bateman, along with several additional cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Danna Tallent Cochran. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 a.m. with A Celebration of Life following at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, at First Pentecost Church, 164 Iotla Church Road, Franklin, NC. Luke Bateman and Eddie Bateman will officiate. Military honors will be provided by VFW 7339/American Legion 108 Honor Guard and the United States Air Force Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice or Appalachian Animal Rescue Center, 851 Lake Emory Road, Franklin, NC, 28734. Moffitt Family Funeral Care is honored to serve Tracy's family.
