Obituary

Thomas Gary Hedden, 78, of Franklin, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Aaron and America Potts Hedden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Barry Hedden; and granddaughter, Morgan Hedden.

Gary retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Louisa Chapel Methodist Church. In his younger years, he served faithfully as youth director, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, and on various committees. He was also one of the founders of Hedden Brothers Well Drilling.

A lifelong baseball fan, he especially loved the Braves, following them since their days in Milwaukee. He coached Little League baseball and enjoyed deer hunting with his late son Barry and his grandson. Above all, he cherished his family and treasured their gatherings. Known for his warm smile and friendly nature, he truly never met a stranger.

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Green Hedden; son, Phillip Hedden; grandchildren, Blake Hedden and his longtime girlfriend Destiney Cowart, Olivia Hedden, and Jarrod Hedden; daughter-in-law, Kim Hedden; siblings, Bruce Hedden (Sandy), Gloria Katsch (Jim), Carol Hall, and Joan Beasley; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 10th , from 10–11 a.m. at Louisa Chapel Church. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Louisa Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lauren Sanders, Robin Hedden, Chris Hedden, Jimmy Katsch, Tim Katsch, Nathan Hall, John David Beasley, and Shane Paxton. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Green and Bruce McCauley.
