Obituary

Thomas Richard Hackett, age 72, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2025 following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born on July 19, 1952 to the late James Edward Hackett and Margaret Lawing Hackett. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey David Hackett.

Tom proudly served in the United States Army and the US Army Reserves for 25 years. A true servant to others, he was a faithful member of Holly Springs Baptist Church where he served on the Audio/ Visual team for 15 years and where he was a champion for Operation Christmas Child.

He found great enjoyment in a good book; and in front of the television watching football and Nascar.

Tom is survived by his wife of more than 53 years, Brenda S. Hackett of Franklin; twin brother, James Michael Hackett of Mooresville; special cousins, Tommy (Lori) Ross of Waxhaw and Donna (Vernon) Ford of Lexington; three special nephews, one special niece; and two great nieces.

A celebration of Tom's life and service will take place at Holly Springs Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. Those who served alongside Tom in the audio/ visual ministry and with Operation Christmas Child, are invited to sit together as honorary pallbearers. Military honors will be rendered by the Franklin, NC Honor Guard- American Legion #108/ VFW Post #7339.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary.

Interment will take place at a later date at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens in Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holly Springs Baptist Church Operation Christmas Child Ministry or Samaritan's Purse.
