Bud Green, officially named Thomas Alton Green, was born on April 27, 1936, to Lawrence A. “Tony” and Sybil Blaine Green. Following a brief illness, he passed on to Glory on January 21, 2026, at his home on Potts Branch Road surrounded by his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Green.

Bud had an interesting life. He worked at the Nantahala Creamery and later for Biltmore Dairy. He was part owner and flag man at The Rainbow Raceway. Bud owned Bud Green Wholesale Tires and was co-owner of B & G Tires. Later, he retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Upon retirement he was able to do what he loved best of all when he went to work as a host at Standing Indian Campground.

Bud was well known by those who camped at Standing Indian. He and his wife, Anne, were the heart and soul of the campground for seventeen years. Bud was a true outdoorsman who loved nature. He was happy gardening, hunting, fishing, or cutting wood. He and his two old friends, Guy Taylor and Hubert Bateman, never backed away from a tree that needed to be turned into firewood.

When Bud wasn’t camping you could find him at home, where he had the reputation of being a wonderful neighbor. He had the type of personality that drew people to him and was always the same dependable Bud no matter what the circumstances.

Bud had a special connection with his church. After Bud’s great-grandmother, Louisa, moved to Macon County, she wanted to be able to attend a Methodist church, and Louisa Chapel Methodist Church was built for and named after her. Bud was a life-long member and served for many years as the Sunday School Superintendent. He loved the Lord; and, during last months of his life, he often sang the praise and worship songs he had learned at church.

Had Bud lived until March 12, he and the love of his life, Anne Henry Green, would have celebrated their 70th anniversary. She survives along with their children, Bobby Green (Crystal), Konda McCauley (Bruce), and Loren Green (Tina) all of Franklin, Stephanie Noland (Brian) of Waynesville, and Eli Jones (Cassie) of Asheville; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; five sisters; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Louisa Chapel Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. with the service following at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Rev. Russell Stewart will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Green, Robert Green, Eli Jones, Brian Noland, Josh Heard, and Tommy Sanders. Honorary pallbearers are Bruce McCauley, Luke Noland, Tim Cochran, Brad Williams, and Doug Hall.
