Steve Lewis Shepherd, 72, of Franklin, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2024.
He was born in Macon County, North Carolina, to Perry and Lola Messer Shepherd on August 1, 1951. He graduated from Franklin High School and then served his country in the United States Army. He was a very patriotic person and spent time placing flags on graves for Memorial Day. He was also a member of The American Legion and the VFW.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandson, Bryson. Steve had a big personality and was always a pleasure to be around. Steve had a lot of friends and never met a stranger. He liked to play golf and travel as well. He will be missed by all that have had the honor of knowing him.
Steve is survived by one daughter, Crystal Corbin (Tony), of Manteo, NC; one grandson, Bryson Corbin; five brothers and sisters, Roger Shepherd (Maxine), of Candler, NC, Ray Shepherd, of Franklin, NC, Kenneth Shepherd (Shirley), of Franklin, NC, Betty Tallent, of Greenville, SC, Jan Yonce (David), of Murphy, NC, sister-in-law Laverne Shepherd of Franklin, N.C., and special friend, Linda Swann, of Franklin, NC. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Minnie Talley, and three brothers Robert Shepherd, Raymond Shepherd, and John Shepherd.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 11:00am at Liberty Baptist Church with Pastors Davis Hooper, Steve Reeves, and Andy Cloer officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until 11:00am prior to the service. Burial will follow in Shepherd Cemetery.
Kenneth Shepherd Jr., Jerry Jennings, Dereck Jones, Tony Corbin, Bryson Corbin, and Mitchell Owenby will serve as pallbearers. Mike Shepherd will serve as honorary pallbearer. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion post 108 and VFW post 7339.
