Steve Joe Arthur Hopkins, 79, of Franklin, NC, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Steve was the son of the late Charlie R. and Ruby Gilreath Hopkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Dalrymple; grandson, Wesley Joe; and brother-in-laws, Claude "Moose" Rogers and Jim Clemmer.
He worked for CR Industries for over 30 years and all factories for cotton mills in Lowell, NC for over 53 years. He loved game nights and digging ginseng with his sisters, Wanda, Carolyn, Ernie, and Genta "Hoppy". As master gardener, he won Grand Champion flower at the Macon County Fair many times. He was an avid clogger and a member of Macon Mountaineer's. He was a member and attended Cartoogechaye Baptist Church for over 52 years, where he always kept the church decorated with his beautiful flowers for over 34 years. He loved his church family and would always dress up as a clown for Vacation Bible School. Steve helped raise the wall of the new church when it was being built. Family meant the world to him; he loved his boys and grandkids with all his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Queen Hopkins; children, Steven (Crystal), Charlie (Brandie); grandchildren, William (Britany), Alexderia, Kyleigh, Kassandra, Bentley; and two great grandsons; Gunner and Charlie B.
The family will receive friends at Cartoogechaye Baptist Church on Sunday, June 1st from 2-3pm. A funeral service will follow at 3pm. Reverends Randy Campbell, Jason Smith, and Brian Southard will officiate. Burial will be at Maidens Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Preston Rogers, Hunter Rogers, Bryce Rogers, Ken Shepherd, Clay Bryson, and Matt Lambert. Honarary pallbearers will be Jimmy Teem, Tony Bryson, Joe Chavis, Jimmy Wiggins, Pat McSherrie, Gordon Clyatt, and Danny Waldroop.
