Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" VanHook Dowdle, 82, Franklin, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 12, 2023.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Addie Pauline Ledbetter VanHook. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hugh Dowdle; brother, Master Srgt. William Cary VanHook; and two stepsons, David Dowdle and Joe Dowdle. Betty was a member of Coweeta Missionary Baptist church; where she always loved helping with VBS and feeding the World Changers, when they were working in Franklin. She loved gardening, growing flowers and traveling. She also enjoyed helping to organize events with her Franklin High School Class of 1959 and meeting with Coweeta Krafters.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynette Lee and husband Tim of Sumter, SC; stepson, Tony Dowdle and wife Virgie of Franklin, NC; sister, Beverly VanHook-Schrey and husband Herb of Franklin, NC; two grandchildren, Justin Lee and Chelsea Jackson and husband Jimmy; three great grandchildren, Lyla Jackson, Jolene Jackson, and Colt Jackson; and a very special life-long friend, Evelyn Callenbach. Also surviving are numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be 3pm on Saturday, May 20 at Coweeta Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Keith Ashe will officiate. Burial will be in the Clarks Chapel United Methodist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm, one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Herb Schrey, Hilary Schrey, Barry Bateman, Justin Lee, Jimmy Jackson, and Billy VanHook. Honorary pallbearers will be the Coweeta Krafters.
