Rupert Leroy Wood, Sr., age 85, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024.

Rup was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and grew up in Live Oak. He graduated from Suwannee County High School where he excelled in baseball and was All American in football. His love and devotion for sports carried over into his adult years where he never missed cheering on the Florida Gators or the Atlanta Braves.

Rup attended Cowee Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, and two sisters. He was also preceded in death by his son, Darren Blakely.

Rup is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Betty Jo Wood, with whom he would have celebrated 42 years of marriage with on August 8. He is also survived by their seven children, Trina Waits (Pat), Doug Blakely, Felicia Wood, Rupe Wood, Jr. (Shannon), Donald Blakely (Rexanna Duvall), and Jason Wood (Jennifer); one brother, Johnny Wood (Glenda); 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 12, 2024 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
