Mrs. Ruby “Bill” McGuire, 91, of Otto, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at the Franklin House. Born in Avery County on October 27, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Clay McGuire and Verna Norris McGuire.
Bill was a devoted member of Coweeta Baptist Church, where her faith was the foundation of her life. She found joy in simple, meaningful pastimes such as cross‑stitching, reading, and coloring on her tablet. She cherished every moment spent with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great‑grandmother, who poured her heart into her home and into the people she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 73 years, Mr. Max McGuire, who passed away in 2024; and her brother, John Henry McGuire.
Left to honor her memory are her four daughters: Sharon McConnell (Charles), Marcia Crawford (Mark), Judy McGuire, and Beverly Penland (Steve). She is also survived by three sisters, Joanne Phillips, Mary Ruth Armstrong, and Bettie Shomaker (Richard); and one brother, Harold McGuire.
Bill leaves behind eight grandchildren Scott Crawford, Steve McConnell, Jason McConnell, Lindsay Crawford Meyers, Katie McConnell Kennedy, Whitney Penland, Jordan McGuire Clay, and Elizabeth Penland Brown along with thirteen great‑grandchildren. She is also survived by one bonus daughter, Janice Tyler, two bonus sons, Larry Shope and Roy Chastain, and all her Gethsemane kids.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Coweeta Baptist Church, with Reverends Keith Ashe and Davis Hooper officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Coweeta Baptist Church Cemetery following the services.
