Roy Baxter Reaves was born on August 30, 1932, in Astatula, Florida. He was the son of the late George Baxter Reaves and Evelyn Jesse Cruthers Reaves.
Roy served his country as a Marine in the Korean War.
Roy married Hazel Virginia Talley on July 29, 1972, at the First Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida. Roy and Hazel moved to Franklin, North Carolina in May 1994 to enjoy the country and help care for Hazel's mother, May Owens Talley, and to be near to Hazel's sister Dorothy Higdon, brother Homer Talley, and other nieces and nephews. Roy loved the Baptist church he attended, and in Franklin, he was a deacon at Higdonville Baptist Church and a faithful tither.
Roy was a printer by trade. His last job was as a printer for First Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida.
In November of 2019, Roy moved to Castle Rock Assisted Living to be cared for and to be in a warmer climate due to age and health issues.
Roy loved football and especially the Florida Gaters. His favorite baseball team was the Atlanta Braves. He loved to eat blueberries, but he didn't care for picking them. Hazel and Roy had no children so once he got to Texas, his caregiver was Mary Lou Anderson, Hazel's youngest sister. He loved all the comfort, attention, good food, and care he received in Texas.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel, and his brothers Allan and Norman, and his sister Emily.
A funeral service will be held on June 17, at 2pm at Higdonville Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 1-2pm, one hour prior to the service.
