Ronald Melvin "Pete" "Buster" Carpenter, 70, of Franklin, NC, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

Pete was the son of the late Faye Carpenter Dills and adopted parents, Oscar and Omega Brown Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen King Carpenter; daughter, Charlotte Carpenter; sister, Sandy Bradley; adopted sisters, Dorothy Justice, Lois Curtis; and adopted brother, Arnold Carpenter. He was a lifelong resident of Macon County and attended of Olive Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of the Macon County Horse Club, Coon Hunters Club, and the Otto Fire Department for 20 years. He enjoyed camping, horse riding, bowhunting and gospel music. He was a very humble person with a sense of humor, which was shown in his smile.

He is survived by his daughter, Kayla Carpenter (Justin Gall); sisters, Linda Harbuck (Billy), Betty Reece, Lillian Hastings (Frankie) of Crestview FL; adopted sisters, Gladys VanPelt (George) of Longwood, FL, and Marie Anderson; three grandchildren, Saydie Gates, Kylee Burgess, Anaya Burgess; and special friend, Glenda Holland.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 4th, at 4pm, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Barry Bowman will officiate. The family will receive friends 2-4pm, before the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Otto Fire Department and Macon County Horse Association.
