Richard "Rick" Wayne Conner, 77, of Franklin, NC, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2024.
Rick was born in Jacksonville, FL to the late J "Russell" and Ruth Olsen Conner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother. He was a retired Amtrak agent. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Franklin. He served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam Era as a Warrant Officer. He flew a Huey chopper and troop carrier into war zones. He delivered, picked up and moved troops in and out of hot zones. He also transported wounded warriors to hospitals. He was shot down three times, and one crash he was wounded and had to recover for six months, then he returned to the war zone.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn O'Hara Conner; his children and their spouses; his brothers and their wives; and his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 5th from 10-10:45 at Macon Funeral Home. A Mass will be held following visitation at 11am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. American Legion Post #108 and VFW Post #7399 will present military rites before the service.
