Raymond Hoyle Shepherd, 77, of Franklin, NC, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

Raymond was the son of the late Perry and Lola Messer Shepherd. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Minnie Talley; brothers, Robert Shepherd and John Shepherd. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was a Macon County Commissioner from 1984-1988, and Chairman 1986. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was an avid golfer and passed on his love of golf to his favorite grandson and favorite granddaughter. He also loved going to hunting camp with his friends.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Laverne Crawford Shepherd; daughter, Sherry Peterson of Huntersville, NC; grandchildren, Lee Woods of Mooresville, NC, Kristen Woods of Huntersville, NC; brothers, Roger Shepherd of Candler, Kenneth Shepherd of Franklin, Ray Shepherd of Franklin, Steve Shepherd of Franklin; sisters, Betty Tallent of Greenville, SC, Jan Younce of Murphy, NC; and several loved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 19, from 6-8pm at Macon Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Sunday August 20, at Liberty Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Reeves and Davis Hooper will officiate. Burial will be in the Shepherd Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joe Allen Jr., Mitchell Bishop, Brad Bishop, Mike Wilson, Sam Tallent, and Kenneth Shepherd Jr. Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Shepherd.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Liberty Baptist Church or St Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
