Phyllis "Cookie" Duckett, was welcomed into heaven on August 28, 2024. She was born on "Tax Day" in April of 1944 in Cleveland , Ohio, with deep brown eyes that reminded her father of a raisin cookie. From that moment on, she became everyone's little "cookie". Spoiled by her parents and older brothers (Shane and Bruce Morgan), Cookie became a spunky, sparky little spitfire. Her fiery nature carried through her entire life and all those encountering her were left with "Formula One" tire tracks upon their hearts. "Who was that beautiful, funny, charismatic creature that just blew by them at 200 mph?" Cookie Duckett. Married to Jesse Duckett who passed on in 2013; Cookie served as the Manager of Rite Aid Drug Stores in the '90's then retired with Jesse in the 00's and traveled west in their trusty Jayco until Jesse's health brought them back to Franklin. She soon let her creative side out and became a revered Folk Artist with her pieces shown in galleries from Franklin, NC to the Panhandle of Florida. Cookie was a devoted mother to daughters Kimba Nichols and Erin Duckett, as well as her son, Michael McGinnis (Pamela). As a grandmother, Cookie adored her 11 grandchildren and loved baking cookies and making crafts with them all.
In later years, Cookie's health began to decline, but she was always the first to remind you that "I may be down now, but I'm hell when I'm well!" and nothing was able to take Cookie down until the disease of Alzheimer's. Her greatest fear was losing "Cookie" and there were some definite changes, but her spirit was indomitable to the end. If you knew Cookie, you knew fire. You probably also knew Cookie's fiery red Camaro too.
Cookie is survived by her two brothers, Bruce Morgan (Chary) and Mickey Morgan, one sister, Deanna Gullett (Denver) three children, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Cookie had a special place in her heart for children at risk. For all those wishing to honor Cookie's memory, please donate to The Kids Place, Children's Advocacy Center, P.O. Box 693, Franklin, NC 28744.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 22, at 2pm at Grandview Manor.
