Phil Rumans, age 75, passed away July 4, 2024 under the care of the Asheville VA Medical Center, after a long fight with health issues.
Phil was born in Warrensburg, Missouri to the late Aubrey Dale Rumans and Faye Ozell Garrison Rumans. He proudly served his Country at a young age in the United States Marine Corps where he received such commendations as the National Defense Service Medal, the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal.
His primary skill was that of a small engine technician, but was able to repair almost anything. He enjoyed his role in his family as Mr. Fix It. In addition he was a licensed Private Investigator in the State of Florida working side by side with his wife, Sherry, in their own Investigative agency prior to moving to their mountain home in Franklin more than 26 years ago. His most recent employment was working side by side with his son at Chris Rumans Construction. He enjoyed working and it was not uncommon for him to come home after a hard day at work and continue working on various equipment for himself and others or a home project. He also used his skills assisting his daughter, Amanda, in her real estate Agency as needed.
When he wasn't working, he enjoyed camping, hunting and following his grandchildren as an avid fan at softball and baseball games and competitive gymnastics. Family was always his priority.
He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Franklin where he served as a Trustee for a period of time.
He is survived by his wife of over 40 years and in his own words "the love of my life", Sherry Rumans. He was a loving father and will be missed by his children, Chris Rumans (Lindsay) and Amanda Rumans Shannon (Jason). He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he adored, Kendall Rumans, Jace Rumans, Alyssa Shannon and Lillian Shannon.
He leaves a hole in our hearts, but we find comfort in the fact that we will see him again when we reach our heavenly home.
As a family, we would like to thank our family and friends for their constant support over the last almost 2 years of his declining health as well as his passing with their prayers, kind words, calls, cards, text messages, food and other monetary gifts. We have been overwhelmed by your love and support. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
