Norman "Norm" Wesley Farrell, 88, of Franklin, went home to be with Jesus on February 14, 2024.
Born in Gastonia, NC, he was the son of the late Daniel W. and Nora E. Scott Farrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Frances Switzer Farrell; son, Norman "Wes" Farrell, Jr.; stepson, Duane Wantland; brother, Jerry Farrell; sister, Sharon Long; and a grandson, Chad Oakley. Mr. Farrell faithfully served his country for thirty-two years before retiring as a Master Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy. After moving to Franklin, he became very involved with First United Methodist Church; helping with the annual Church Bazaar, teaching Sunday School, and being a Head Usher. He also volunteered at the Macon County Senior Center, loved going to the fitness center, and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
Norm is survived by his wife of twelve years, Rose Kendrick Farrell; two daughters, Debra Scarborough (Scott) of Belmont, NC, and Paula Medford (Paul) of Gastonia, NC; four stepchildren, Sandra Oakley (Jim) of Chesapeake, VA, John Wantland (Judy) of Dallas, TX, John Payne (Ginger) of Franklin, NC, and Sadie Chapman (Donald) also of Franklin, NC. He also has sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews surviving.
A Celebration of Life will be at 12pm on Saturday, February 24, at the First United Methodist Church. Military Honors will be provided.
The family will greet friends and family following the service.
