Nicholas Brian Murphy, 81, of Otto, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023.
Born in Portland, OR, he was the son of the late Dr. Nicholas Patrick Murphy and Mary O'Donnell Murphy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by two brothers, Tim Murphy, and Mike Murphy; and two sisters, Kathleen Murphy, and Colleen Snowden.
Above all, Nick valued his Catholic Faith and family. One of his greatest joys was being able to assist in the establishment of a perpetual adoration chapel in Fair Oaks, CA. He loved being with Our Lord present in the Eucharist. Professionally, Nick was President and CEO of Umpqua Feather Merchants in Glide, Oregon. He loved fly fishing, tying his own flies, and was very well known in the fly-fishing industry.
Nick is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Mary Greiner Murphy; five children and their spouses: Erin Anne Vander Woude and Steve of Nokesville, VA; Nicholas P. Murphy and Marguerite of Daphne, AL; Matthew T. Murphy and Wendy of New Smyrna, FL; Monica M. Curran and John of Manassas, VA; and Malia K. Messina and Frank of Crestwood, KY and a sister, Maureen Stipanov (Bob) of Dade City, FL. He is also survived by thirty-five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10am on November 16th at St. Helena Catholic Church in Clayton, GA. A rosary will be said at 9:30am prior to the Mass. Father Luis Alvarez will preside.
The burial will be in the Rush cemetery in Otto, following the Mass. The pallbearers will be a few of the older grandsons.
