Obituary

Nancy Louise Hoagland passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at home on April 7, 2025. It was her 46th wedding anniversary. She fought a brave battle with pancreatic cancer for a year.

Nancy was born on November 9, 1961, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to the late George and Dorothy Broughton. As a child Nancy and her family used to vacation in Franklin where they would camp and gem mine. She and Michael decided to move their family here in 1989.
Nancy was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother. She was known for her laughter that would make anyone smile. She enjoyed reading and working in her yard to make it beautiful. However, she enjoyed spending time with her family the most, especially her grandkids. She was extremely proud of them, as anyone that knows her could tell you.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Hoagland, of 46 years. They were married on April 7, 1979. In addition, she is survived by one son Michael Hoagland (Jessica Holden), of Elizabethton, Tennessee; one daughter, Holly Averett (Michael) of Franklin, NC; five grandchildren, Brooklyn Vargas (Andrew), Korah Shepherd (Jerry), Ethan Averett, LCpl Trevor Averett (USMC), and Kelsey Averett, all of Franklin; two great grandchildren, Jerry and Everleigh Shepherd; one stepson, Ryan Barrand (Holly) and their children; two sisters, Cheryl Smith (Mickey) of Texas and Merry Broughton of Franklin and her fur babies, George and Casey.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Cook, and two brothers, George (aka Jeep) Broughton, and Robert (aka Bob) Broughton.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the excellent care given by Messino Cancer Center in Franklin, and Four Seasons Hospice.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, at Macon Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 12:00pm, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home, with Rev. Bryon Lamb officiating.

Online condolences can be made at www.maconfuneralhome.com.

Macon Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
