Obituary

Milo R. Beran, age 91, peacefully passed away at his home in Franklin, NC, on January 15, 2025. A longtime resident of Cincinnati, Milo grew up in Mt. Washington, attended Miami University, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. After serving as an officer in the Navy, he earned his law degree at Chase Law School and practiced law for many years in Cincinnati.

Milo had a love for the arts, particularly jazz music, and painting, a lifelong hobby. After moving to North Carolina, he became actively involved in his community, writing letters to the editor of his local paper, singing in the community choir, and volunteering with a veterans group Macon County Home Delivered Meals.

Milo is survived by his three children, Lisa (Bob) Beran, Tamara (Ron) Robinson, and Joshua (Laura) Beran; his five grandchildren, Payne, Cameron, Eliza, Gigi, and Mila; his brother, Rev. David (Marilyn) Beran; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Chris (Doggette) Beran; his second wife, Patty (Wroe) Beran; and his parents, Rev. Milo and Caroline Beran.

Milo maintained an intellectual curiosity about ideas and people, always striving to keep his mind sharp and his heart open. This curiosity allowed him to find meaning in every interaction, especially with strangers. As he grew older, he came to recognize the profound importance of family, community, and using his voice to raise awareness for those on the margins of society. Calls and visits from his children and grandchildren brought him joy, and the time spent together was a constant source of pride in his life. Above all, Milo treasured his independence and was determined to live life on his own terms, remaining self-sufficient until the very end.

In his 91 years, Milo lived a life full of purpose—grounded in his commitment to his community and the causes he cared about. His family will carry with them the laughter, stories, and love he shared, along with the indomitable spirit that defined him. Though he will be missed, his memory will live on in the music he adored, the stories he told, and the countless lives he touched. Good for you, Milo.

Private Services for family will be held this weekend, with a celebration of life planned for later this spring or early summer (details TBD). The family is grateful to the Franklin community, whose support gave Milo a sense of purpose, especially during his final years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 828 Vets and Macon County Home Delivered Meals.

Online condolences can be made at www.maconfuneralhome.com.
