Mertis Loretta Gibson (Cagle) passed away on June 10, 2024, at the age of 80 in Franklin, North Carolina. She was born on March 12, 1944, in Franklin, NC.

She is survived by three daughters, Wanda Todd and husband Mike of Franklin, Judy Beechley of Franklin, Pamela Mason and husband Joe of Mount Pleasant, SC; two sons, Alfred Gibson of Cummins, GA, David Gibson of Seabrook,TX; two sisters, Barbara Fouts and Jo Ann Fouts both of Franklin; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tony Gibson, mother, Ollie Mae Dills-McCarty, father, Lorenzo McCarty, and grandmother, Addie McClure Dills all of Franklin.

Mertis was known for her free-spirited nature and deep love for her family. She found joy in singing and cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Cowee Baptist Church.

To honor Mertis's wishes the family will have a private celebration of her life and ask everyone to please celebrate Mertis's memory in your own way as she will be with everyone in spirit.
