Mertis Angel Crawford, age 90, of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
Born in Macon County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late William Lloyd Angel and Dolly Holland Golightly. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" Lee Crawford; her brother, Morris Lloyd Angel; her sister, Meda Angel Meadows; and her nephew, William Zeb Meadows.
She is lovingly survived by her nieces, Elizabeth "Beth" Meadows Crabtree and Mertis Angel Peters, and her nephews, Lloyd Angel and Jason Smith Angel. She will be dearly missed by her extended family and friends.
Mertis and her husband Bob were married for 60 years, spending many cherished years together in Kennesaw, Georgia. Following Bob's retirement from Lockheed Martin Corporation, they relocated first to Hayesville, North Carolina, and later settled in Hiawassee, Georgia.
Throughout her life, Mertis cultivated many passions and talents. She was an accomplished dog breeder, trainer, and handler, raising and showing award-winning German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers. She was also known for her exceptional culinary skills, which she loved sharing during holidays and special gatherings. Gardening—both indoors and out—was a lifelong joy for her, and she took great pride in nurturing beautiful flowers and plants.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3rd, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home, with Rev. Brian Holland officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
