Obituary

Max Leon "Chopper" Holland, 78, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014.

Born and raised in Macon Co, he was the son of the late Orron Baldwin Holland and Faye Cabe Holland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marianne Johnston Holland. Raised during the depression, Max learned the value of hard work and the love of family and friends over possessions. He loved The Lord and his church family immensely; he was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. Max was a US Army veteran and served his country in Germany. He graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Engineering and worked at Nantahala Lumber Company following graduation. Later, he worked as Supervisor over the vocational department for the Job Corps and retired from the US Forest Service after 28 years. Max was Co-owner of Hollands Trout Farm for many years and delivered flowers for Eastside Florist.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jane Hughes Holland; daughter, Lisa Holland Hunt and husband Michael of Fort Mill, SC; daughter, Mandy Holland of Franklin; step-son, Tracy Chastain and wife April of Franklin; sister, Barbara Caldwell and husband Dick of Clover, SC; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3rd at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Reverends Greg Rogers, Steve Reeves, Wayne Price, Mike Chastain and Don Moffitt will officiate. Burial will be in the Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery.


The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Lyman Holland, Bryant Holland, Glen Holland, Bobby Peek, Clyde McCall and Alan Berry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roger Hamilton, John Holland, Bill Bryson, Joe Holland, Mac Stanfield, Miles Gregory and Bill Fuchs.


Memorial donations can be made in his memory to Pine Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 7454 Highlands Road, Franklin, NC 28734.
