Max "Mack" Ball, aged 77, passed away on July 20, 2024, in Otto, NC. Born on July 5, 1947, in Bryson City, He was raised on Lands Creek by his devoted grandmother Cora Cook. Max honorably served in the United States Army from November 7, 1966, to November 6, 1968, dedicating two years of his life to serving his country during a pivotal era.
Max was a beacon of love and reliability in his family, cherished as a devoted husband to Wanda Brendle Ball, and a loving father to Nicholas Max Ball, Nathan Scott Ball, Judy B. Mullen, Nancy (Danny) Foster, Beth (David) Cline-Stroud, Melody "Crickett" (Marty Carpenter) Cline. His legacy extends to his grandchildren—Logan Pierce, Sydney (Cody) Durm, Bailey (Weston) Welch, Brayden Cline, and Gelisa Nations—and great-grandchildren—Haven Welch, Hudson Pierce, Lawson Welch, Peyton Welch, Kaylee Muse, Timothy Muse, Aryanna Nations, Lakota Nations.
Max was preceded in death by his grandmother, Cora Cook; parents, Elmer and Ethel Collura; brothers, Tony Collura and W.C. Bryant; and grandson, Matthew Nations. He is also survived by his brothers, Troy Lee Collura and Elmer (Tinker) Collura, and sister, Nancy Kay Clark.
Known affectionately as the "Mack of all trades," Max was a hardworking, loyal, and kind soul who never hesitated to lend a hand. There wasn't anything that he couldn't do or fix. He was always our first call and was always the first to show up, no matter what the problem was. He loved his family fiercely and was loved even more fiercely. He showed up and stepped up whenever he was needed, no questions asked. He never spoke an unkind word of anyone and was a friend to many. He never met a stranger and loved to talk to everyone he met.
A celebration of Max's life will be held on Tuesday, July 23, at Macon Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. His life, marked by dedication to his family and service to his country, will be remembered and honored by all who knew him.
