Maurice Dean
Brown
March 14, 1927 – April 13, 2026
Dean Brown died on April 13, 2026. He was born to Joe E. and Mayme Brown, together with his twin sister, Jean, at Mason, Oklahoma.
He married his soul-mate Patricia (Pat) Scanlan in 1952 and they had two children, Stephen P. Brown and Patricia (Trish) B. Foor. Dean grew up in the small town of Dustin, Oklahoma and graduated from high school there in 1944. After his tour of duty with the Army during WWII, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1949 with a degree in accounting. Upon graduation, Dean practiced accounting as a Special Agent with the Internal Revenue Service before joining a private certified public accounting firm. While working full-time as an accountant, with one child at home and another on the way, Dean put himself through Oklahoma City University’s College of Law night school program. In fact, his last semester in law school was his first tax season as an accountant. Dean graduated second in his law school class in 1957. In 1959, he joined John A. Green in the practice of law and accounting, both of them being CPAs as well as lawyers. The firm was originally Green and Brown but later became Green, Brown and Stark with the admission of Steve Stark as a partner. The firm was dissolved in 2002 upon the deaths of Green and Stark. In addition to practicing law, Dean served on the board of directors of several companies including Panhandle Oil & Gas and Mercantile National Bank as well as on the institutional review board of Integris (then Baptist) Hospital. He also held positions of responsibility (elder, deacon, Bible study leader) at the churches he and Pat attended. Before her death in 2018, Dean and Pat enjoyed traveling together, attending OU sporting events and leading a home group Bible study. They were married almost 66 years. In 2020, Dean along with his daughter, Trish and son-in-law, Tracy, made the move from their lifetime home state of Oklahoma to North Carolina where they enjoyed life in the mountains.
Dean is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Pat; and his son, Stephen. He is survived by his daughter, Trish Foor; her husband Tracy; and sons Jeremy, Gordon, wife Taylor and son Theo.
He has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Reaching Souls International and Manna Food Bank.
The family would like to thank Tammy, Cheryl and all the employees of Chestnut Hill Assisted Living for their loving care of him these last six years.
A small memorial was held at Chestnut Hill in Highlands, NC.
