Mary Ann Compton Thompson, 91, of Franklin, NC, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Marie Rucker Compton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Thompson; her son, Byron Thompson; five brothers; and two sisters.
Mary Ann dedicated her life to caring for others. She worked with Pruett Adult Day Care and Macon Program for Progress, where her compassion and steady presence touched countless lives. Her gentle spirit, strong work ethic, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Wayne Thompson (Kim) and Becky Hurst (Richard); her grandchildren, Rob Thompson (Cassie), Kurt Thompson (Denise), Mariah Morse (Nathan), Stephanie Moon (Aaron), Ashley Ruggerio (Rocco), Deanna Mason (Jammie), Logan Mason (Sheri), and Kristina Morales (Marco); nineteen great‑grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 4–6 pm at Macon Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 5th , at 12 PM at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel in Black Mountain, NC. Burial immediately following in the VA cemetery.
