Mrs. Margie Nell (Shook) Nicholson, age 93, of Otto, NC, passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2023. Margie was born on October 3, 1929, to the late Fairl Banks and Rubey Bonnie Wood Shook in Tate City, Georgia.

Margie had an adventurous life living all across the United States, but her favorite place was her quiet home on Cache Creek in Colorado. She loved to fill her days quilting, rock hunting, fishing, gardening, taking walks, birdwatching, reading, and doing word search puzzles. She was best known for her exceptional cooking and baking. Margie was beautiful, kind, sweet and very loving. Everyone that knew her loved her. She fiercely loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. She was a wonderful wife to her husband of 71 years. She had a way of making her children and grandchildren feel uniquely special. Her legacy is her family.

Margie is preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren; Joseph and Kristen Nicholson, two brothers; Alex and Junior Shook, and a sister; Estelle Sanders. She is survived by her devoted husband Grady Byron Nicholson, her beloved children Teresa Shields (Henry), Gary Nicholson, and Timothy Nicholson (Robin). As well as her cherished grandchildren; Christopher Shields, April Brown (Kenny), Amy Harris (Waylon), Alicia Aughtman (Buck), Steven Nicholson, Justin Dye, Jason Dye, and Cindy Sarvis (Matt); her precious great grandchildren; Byron Shields (Sydney), Travis Belcher (Jessica), Caleb Shields, Isabel Harris, Jonathan Aughtman, Adeline Harris, Ryler Cooper, Wyatt Harris, Daxton Cooper, Garrett Nicholson, Taylor Sarvis and Lunara Dye; a sweet great-great granddaughter Adeline Belcher. Also surviving are brothers Truett Shook and Micheal Shook, sisters; Brenda Baker, Margaret Ann Shook and Sandy Foster, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 17, 2023, at 3pm at Newman Chapel Baptist Church in Otto, NC. The family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm, one hour prior to the service. The Revs. Harvey Connor and Dennis Ledford will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Waylon Harris, Byron Shields, Travis Belcher, Caleb Shields, Jonathan Aughtman and Wyatt Harris. Daxton Cooper and Garrett Nicholson will serve as junior pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Shields, Steven Nicholson, Justin Dye, Jason Dye, Kenneth Brown, Buck Aughtman, and Matt Sarvis.
