Marcus Levi McCarson, 21, of Franklin, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Born in Newport News, Virginia, Marcus was the beloved son of James McCarson and Emily Osteen. In 2024, he made Franklin his home, where he quickly became a valued member of the community. Marcus proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and continued his commitment to service as a police officer with the Franklin Police Department.

Marcus lived life fearlessly. He loved riding his motorcycle and embraced every adventure that came his way. Known for his infectious sense of humor and playful spirit, he was a jokester who could bring a smile to anyone's face. More than anything, Marcus "loved big." He was a loyal friend to many and formed lasting bonds wherever he went.

While Marcus excelled in many roles throughout his life, his favorite and most cherished role was that of husband and father. His love and devotion to his wife and daughter were evident in everything he did. He was an amazing brother, a devoted husband, and a loving father whose presence brought comfort, strength, and joy to those around him.

In addition to his parents, Marcus is survived by his loving wife, Abigail Carpenter McCarson; his precious daughter, Azzi Kate McCarson; his brothers and sister, James McCarson, Alexis McCarson, Seth McCarson, and Evan Smith; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dennis and Melinda Carpenter; his best friend, Devin Walker; his brothers-in-law, Aiden Carpenter and Avery Carpenter; and the many brothers and sisters he gained through the law enforcement community.

Though his time on earth was far too short, Marcus left an unforgettable impact on the lives of those who knew and loved him. His courage, kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for his family will be remembered forever.

Marcus will be deeply missed and forever loved. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, fellow officers, and all whose lives he touched.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 22nd, from 11am-1pm at the Smoky Mountain Performing Arts Center. A funeral service will be held at 1pm. Rev. David Dickerson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Seth McCarson, James McCarson, Evan Smith, Aiden Carpenter, Avery Carpenter, Devin Walker, Ray Ford, and Logan Mack. His fellow officers of the Franklin Police Department will be honorary pallbearers.
