Obituary

Lillie Mae Ammons Smith, 81, peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in Franklin, NC.

She was born on April 6, 1942 in Macon County, NC to the late George and Dillie Green. Lillie Mae was married to the late Kenneth Edward Smith, who preceded her in death in 2022. She was also preceded in death by her oldest son, Larry Ammons; a grandson, Joshua Ammons; a sister Gladys Ann; and sister, Yvonne McClain.

Lillie Mae is survived by her loving children, Martha McClure (Mike), Kenny Ammons, Doug Ammons, and Jimmy Ammons. She is also survived by her siblings, George Green Jr., Linda Eulene Owens (Frank), Harold Green, Ronnie Green, and JC Hurst, fourteen grandchildren, Lesley Hardegree (Brandon), Adam Peak, Angela Henderson (James), Valerie Hartpence (Brandon), Joey Ammons (Jessica), Tabitha Ammons, Trevor Ammons, Brandon Ammons, Shay Holcombe (Brett), Alisha Ammons, Melissa Quiletorio (Ilde), Zachary Ammons, Tristan Ammons (Abrianna), and Ryan Crawford (Brooke), twenty one great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Lillie Mae worked as a hostess and was known for her warm and welcoming smile. She enjoyed greeting everyone at the restaurant with her affectionate nature. Lillie Mae was a devoted member of East Franklin Baptist and actively participated in its activities.

Outside of church involvement, Lillie Mae cherished spending time with her family and her best friend, Malinda Simon. She had a passion for traveling to Florida to spend time with her step children, exploring thrift shops, never met a stranger and had a spirit that matched her style.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, December 6 at 2pm, at East Franklin Baptist Church. Rev. David Lee Williams and Rev. Terry Jenkins will officiate. The family will receive friends 1-2pm, one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to East Franklin Baptist Church, 2059 Lakeside Dr., Franklin, NC 28734.
