Obituary

Kathy Andrewsen English Anderson, 71, peacefully passed through the veil on September 21, 2024, in her home after a valiant battle with cancer.

She was born in Ft. Knox, Kentucky on October 10, 1952, to Walter (Andy) and Margaret Andrewsen. While there may not be any gold in those famous vaults anymore, she was a golden nugget to the world. She moved from there to Ft. Hood, Texas, when she was about three years old. Her older brother, just three years older, has one memory of her thinking she was being helpful when she let his pet parakeet out of its cage after their mother had placed the cage outside on the front porch to give it some sun and fresh air. Now, why would Lance remember that?!

From Texas she moved with her family to Puerto Rico, where her father was the Deputy Post Commander of Ft. Brooke in San Juan. She began school there. Three years in Puerto Rico led to a "Final" move to Keystone Heights, Florida, where they hoped to settle after her father retired from the military. She made a lot of friends there as she grew up to the age of 13, but then "final" turned into "not final" when the family moved out West to Lehi, Utah. The family had joined to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Puerto Rico after being introduced by next door neighbors originally from Lehi. That was the connection to their move to Utah. Her father had become a school math teacher hired to teach school in the West. (He started in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but came to Lehi to join the family to teach in Utah schools for ten years.) Kathy eventually graduated from Lehi High School in 1970. Following high school, she enrolled in beautician school. She was always good with doing her and her friend's hair, so she was a natural. She worked at this profession for over 30 years and made many close friends by doing their hair. She was often asked to do the hair of one of her older clients in preparation for their funeral after they died. We have wondered if the many years of breathing the harsh chemicals in hair dyes and other hair products eventually contributed to her cancer. Kathy married a high school sweetheart, but the marriage didn't last long and produced no children. Her second marriage to Bob English gave her two children, Ryan and Alysha. They were born ten years apart, as Kathy experienced a lot of difficulties with pregnancies after Ryan was born. Kathy loved her children! Ryan later married and blessed Kathy with her only grandchild, Brayden. As you can imagine, he was extra special (and probably spoiled) being her only one.

After her divorce from Bob she met Rick Anderson, the love of her life. They eventually moved to Florida with Kathy's father for a few years before finally settling in Franklin, North Carolina. They loved living in North Carolina, especially Franklin where they made many good friends.

Her cancer diagnosis came as a shock to all her family and friends and was especially hard on Rick. He became her devoted and loving caregiver and was by her side to the very last breath of her life. Kathy's sudden passing has left a big hole in the hearts of her family and many friends, but we all know there is a new special golden nugget in Heaven now.

She was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband, Rick Anderson; mother, Margaret Murdola (Frank) of Florida; son, Ryan English of Florida; daughter, Alysha English of Utah; grandson, Brayden English; brother, Lance Andrewsen (Trudy) of Utah; aunt, Susan Hyatt (Gary) of Florida; uncle, Tom Bird (Janice) of Florida and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 27th at 1pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
