Joyce Evelyn Day Vanderslice, 85, of Otto, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, January 8, 2024.

Joyce was born on July 8, 1938, in Wintersville, OH. She was the daughter of the late J. Donald Day and Evelyn Lucille Moran Day. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julian David Vanderslice; and two sisters, Judi Hopps and Jean Sweeney. Joyce grew up in Westerville, OH and Coral Gables, FL. She was a 1959 graduate from Florida State University. She married the love of her life, Julian Vanderslice, on December 27, 1959. Joyce taught elementary school, fourth and fifth grades, in Miami, FL and Clayton, GA for a total of forty years. Joyce was a member of Morrison Presbyterian Church, where she had been actively involved with the choir, Sunday School, missions work, and the Handbells. She loved reading and gardening.

She is survived by two sons, David Robert Vanderslice of Ringgold, GA, and James Dale Vanderslice and his wife Cheryl Moore Vanderslice of Greer, SC; three grandchildren, Sarah Lynn Vanderslice, Emma Elizabeth Rose Vanderslice, and Palmer Dale Vanderslice; and one great granddaughter, Anna Grace Templeton. Joyce is also survived by one cousin, Jeanne Marie Pickering Martino and her husband, Bob Martino of Davie, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm on Saturday, January 20 at Macon Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 2pm in the chapel of Macon Funeral Home on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Bill Williamson, a dear friend, and fellow Morrison Presbyterian parishioner will officiate. Burial will be in the Rush Cemetery on Coweeta Church Road.

Pallbearers will be Ron Williamson, Mark Wehrly, Phillip Brown, Rick Story, Palmer Vanderslice, and David Schmidt. Honorary pallbearer will be Troy Hylton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Morrison Presbyterian Church.
