Joyce "Joy" Pannell, 68, of Franklin, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on February 10, 2024.
She was born in Jackson County, North Carolina, to the late Odell and Villie Hyatt Johnson, on September 25, 1955. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was the "go to" person in the family when someone was sick or needed advice. Joy was of the Baptist Faith and was a very active member at Watauga Baptist Church. She helped with Bible School and Sunday School for many years. She was known throughout the community as someone who put others first. She was a selfless giver and would be the first to try and meet the needs of anyone. She put this passion in practice by working for Franklin Family Practice for over 40 years. In her free time, Joy loved to camp and take trips to the beach. She enjoyed gardening and canning as well. Joy loved to bake and loved her sweets.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Alan Pannell.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Pannell, of 41 years. She is also survived by three children, David Pannell (Cindy), Sherry Mims, and Nathan Pannell; one grandchild Maddison Pannell; one sister, Catrinia Norton (Ron); three brothers, Alvin Johnson (Sue), of Franklin, R.V. Johnson (Diane), of Sylva, and Edward Johnson (Judy), also of Sylva; one sister-in-law Donna Cochran (Harold), and one brother-in-law, Randy Pannell. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 2:00pm at Watauga Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Thomas James will officiate.
