John Daniel Tippett, 88, of Franklin, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
A native of Macon County, John was the son of the late James Edgar Tippett and Bertha Stillwell Tippett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Willa Mae Cloer Tippett, and his brother, Bob Tippett.
He was a faithful member of Iotla Baptist Church. When spending time at his cabin in Glenville, he attended Pine Creek Baptist Church. He had a deep love for the Lord and served as a deacon for many years. John had a passion for sharing the Gospel, and the salvation of others was very important to him. He had a humble and loving spirit that touched many lives.
He retired from Winn-Dixie after many dedicated years of service and later became the owner and operator of Franklin Frozen Foods, where he worked until his retirement.
John enjoyed a full and active life. He loved working on his farm, raising horses and cattle, and attending cattle sales. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, spending time hunting and fishing whenever possible. He especially loved bird dogs, coon dogs, and nearly any hunting dog, finding great joy in their companionship. He was well known for trading horses, hunting dogs, farm equipment, and just about anything else he could make a deal on, always enjoying the friendships and stories that came along with it (even when he got the short end of the stick).
He is survived by his children, Sherry Jones (Larry) and Steve Tippett (Kelli); grandchildren, Brooke Tippett (Isaac Pitts), Amy Tippett (Dustin Stephens), and Adam Jones; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Allyson Pitts; his sister, Betty Penland; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
John will be remembered for his strong faith, his love for his family, and his enduring kindness to those who knew him. His legacy of devotion, both to God and to his loved ones, will continue to live on in the lives he touched.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 14th, from 5-7pm at Macon Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Iolta Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, May 15th at 11am.
