Obituary

John William "Swannie" Swanson, 89, of Franklin, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013.
Born in Ducktown, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Robert Swanson and Leona McJunkins Swanson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Lee Swanson and three brothers, Lenore, Leonard and Loin Swanson. John was a US Army and Marine Corps veteran and served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW Post 7339; was a pilot and enjoyed flying and enjoyed playing golf and poker. He loved his family immensely, including his dog, Sweetheart.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Cochran Swanson; seven children, Wanda Phillips and husband Gene of Canton, GA, Robert Swanson of Venice, FL, Ken Swanson and wife Bonnie of Appomattox, VA, Mike Ford, Chris Ford, Tony Rutherford and Ramona Swanson Penland and husband Brian all of Franklin; fifteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 14th in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Darian Cochran and Rev. Radford Penland will officiate. Burial will be in the Burningtown Baptist Cemetery with military rites conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 13th at Macon Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mike Ford, Chris Ford, Brian Douglas Penland, Brian William Penland, Jonathan Ford and Steve Combs.
