Obituary

Jimmie Johnson, affectionately known to family and friends as "Hoss," "JJ," "Jimmie J” passed away peacefully on July 3rd, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and the love of those who knew him.

Born on February 6, 1955, in Macon County, Jimmie was the son of the late Mattie Pearl McCall Johnson and the late Lemmie Houston. He was lovingly raised by the late Dee Sanders, who was the closest thing to a father and had a profound influence on the man he became.

Jimmie shared 48 years of marriage with the love of his life, Patricia "Patty" Tallent Johnson. Together they built a life centered on love, hard work, laughter, and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Pearl McCall Johnson and Lemmie Houston; the man who lovingly raised him, Dee Sanders; his twin sister, Jewel Johnson, who passed away at birth; and his sister, Jacqueline “Jackie” Ernst.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia "Patty" Tallent Johnson; his daughter, Misty Day; his pride and joy, granddaughter Isabella Day; his half-sister, Wanda Dillard; his half-brother, Mike Johnson; several other half brothers and sisters he never met and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.

Jimmie was a hardworking man who took tremendous pride in his profession as a drywall finisher and hanger. As the owner of Johnson's Drywall for many years, he earned a reputation for exceptional honesty and dedication. He believed in doing a job right and took great pride in his work.

Outside of work, Jimmie found his greatest happiness in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time in the woods and on the water. He also enjoyed pitching horseshoes, playing golf, and playing softball. Whether he was sharing stories, joking with friends, or enjoying time with those he loved, Jimmie never met a stranger and had a way of making people smile.

Above all, Jimmie was a family man. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, daughter, and especially his granddaughter, Isabella, who truly was the light of his life. Being a papa was the best part of his life.

Jimmie will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, generous heart, quick wit, unforgettable sense of humor, and the love he had for his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone blessed to know him.

Jimmie will be cremated prior to the service in accordance with his wishes.

A visitation for friends and family will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Macon Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating Jimmie's life will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Morris Tippett and Jimmy Lambert.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to Patricia "Patty" Johnson to assist with funeral expenses. The family sincerely appreciates every prayer, act of kindness, and expression of sympathy during this difficult time as they celebrate Jimmie's life and the memories he leaves behind.
