Jim Higdon, age 74, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at his residence.
Jim was born in Rabun County and spent most of his life in Franklin. He was a longtime member and deacon of Oak Dale Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Howard Higdon and Allene Elizabeth Roper Higdon; son in law, Jimmy Dixon; nephew, Stephen Higdon; and sister-in-law, Judith Higdon.
Jim was always happiest if he was telling a joke or pulling a prank; trading cars; with his nose in a good book; in front of the television; cheering on the Vols; or treasure hunting at a flea market.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Nell Higdon; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth "Lisa" Higdon Dixon (fiancé, Jason Liberadzki) and Sharon Higdon Wilcox; two brothers, Charles Higdon and George Higdon (Linda); sisters in law, Linda Seay and Frances Seay; brothers in law, Jay Seay, David Seay, and Horace Seay; and many nieces and nephews.
PaPaw's pride and joy were his four grandchildren, Luke Dixon (Katelynn), Jordan Dixon, Bo Dixon (Mallory), and Emily McVicker; and his five great grandchildren, Caitlin Dixon, Casen Dixon, Lucas Dixon, Oakley Dixon, and Ryland Dixon.
Funeral services will take place at 2pm Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Oakdale Baptist Church with Reverend Gary McCoy and Reverend John Raby officiating. Interment will follow in Roper Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay Seay, David Seay, Horace Seay, Luke Dixon, Jordan Dixon, Ronnie Vanhook, Paul Higdon, and Bill Higdon. Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Dixon, Toby Briere, and the deacons of Oakdale.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in care of Frances Seay to assist with expenses.
