Jesse Calvin Cunningham, 94, of Franklin, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024.

Jesse was born in Macon County on August 20, 1929. He was the son of the late Dewey and Edith Grant Cunningham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Stockton Cunningham; two grandsons, Wayne Cunningham, and Brandon Sumner; and one brother, Howard Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham retired from NC DOT where he had worked with the maintenance department. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was an avid Atlanta Braves Fan. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting for ginseng.

He survived by his three children, Gary Wayne Cunningham (Lisa) of Sylva, NC, Wanda Cunningham Norris (Tony) of Otto, NC, and Sheila Cunningham Bowers (John) of Tuckasegee, NC; four brothers, Roger Cunningham of Otto, NC, Mike Cunningham, Hershel Cunningham, and Steve Cunningham all of Marietta, GA; and one sister, Mildred Holland also of Marietta, GA. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jarrett Cunningham, Ryan Angel, Toni Nicole Johnson, Cristie Stockton, and Aimee Sumner; seven great grandchildren, Abigail Angel, Ryland Angel, Ethan Johnson, Bradley Johnson, Benjamin Sumner, Emma Jo Watson, and Ty Hamlin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1:30pm to 2:30 pm on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Macon Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2:30pm at Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Eddie Stillwell will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Angel, Kirk Johnson, Justin Norton, Jarrett Cunningham, Ely Cunningham, and Dalton Cunningham.
