James David Schulte Sr., 95, of Highlands, NC, passed away on September 29, 2026. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Story Schulte and his cherished first wife, Renie Schulte, mother of his children, Jim Jr., Karen and Elizabeth.
He was born in 1931 and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He went on to attend Penn State University, where he earned his BS in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Lion's Paw, Parmi Nous Society and Blue Key. He served as head boxing manager and chairman of the Student Tribunal.
After graduation, he began a 42 year career with Reliance Electric Company, working in sales and sales management in Cleveland, Buffalo, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Richmond and Atlanta. His career was interrupted by two periods of service in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Lieutenant.
In retirement, Jim and Sue made their home in the mountains of Highlands, a place he loved and where he became a valued part of the community. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church. His faith was a very important part of his life, he served as president of the Men's Club and as an usher. He also became involved with the Highlands Cashiers Players, helping with set construction and occasionally a few acting roles. He volunteered at the Fidelia Eckerd Living Center, the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital Pharmacy and the Highlands Food Pantry. Most recently helping a dear friend at the Highlands Farmers Market at the young age of 95! He gave his time quietly and generously, enjoying every minute.

His stepdaughter, Kathy Turner, predeceased him.
He will be forever remembered for his love of family, faith, kindness, sense of humor and willingness to help others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral mass will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church, Highlands, NC.
