James Gordon McCollum Jr, 84, of Franklin, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025. He was born on September 25, 1941, in Macon County to the late James and Elizabeth McCollum.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Gordon McCollum III. Jim was a member of Patton Methodist Church and a 1959 Franklin High School graduate. He was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion and a member of the Florida Submarines Veterans. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy Submarine Force for twenty-three years. During his service he made twenty-two war patrols protecting the freedom of America. Jim was a chief quartermaster on submarines at the time of his retirement. Jim has gone on his final patrol. "Sailor rest your oars".
Jim is survived by his wife Linda. In addition, he is survived by a sister Margaret McCollum Brown (Steve) of Greensboro, NC; two grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at Longview Cemetery, on Monday, October 20th at 1pm, with American Legion Post #108 and VFW Post #7339 presenting military rites. Rev. Edward Evans will officiate.
