James William Lane, 62, of Smithfield, NC, formerly of Franklin, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025.

Born in Haywood County, he was the son of the late Dr. William Thomas "Tom" Lane and the late Grace Erwin Lane. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew "Andy" Thomas Lane, and his faithful four-legged companion, Lucy. He worked in the printing and graphic arts industry. Jim was a member of the Franklin High School class of 1980. He loved spending time in his yard and was known for being an excellent cook.

Jim is survived by his sister, Carol Lane Justice, of Franklin; brother, Phillip Lane (Lori) of Franklin; nephews, Trevor Justice (Skyler) of Otto, NC, and Dylon Tucker of Panama City, FL; nieces, Laney Grace Justice of Franklin, NC and Lacey Karpisek (Adam) of Tampa, FL; and great nieces, Elissa Lane Karpisek, and Emma Grace Justice. Also surviving are his aunts, Peggy Erwin of Canton, NC, and Bernice "Bing" Lane of Asheville, NC, along with numerous other cousins and close friends.

In honoring Jim's wishes, no services are currently planned.
