Obituary
James Matthew Kirkland, 82, of Franklin, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, December 9, 2023.
He was born in Polk County, FL, on May 12, 1941. Jim was the son of the late Francis Matthew and Nannie Mae Helms Kirkland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Wade Kirkland. Jim retired from the Polk County School system, where he had taught Drafting and Engineering. He was a general contractor and enjoyed woodworking. Jim and Peggy loved riding motorcycles with their friends.
Jim is survived by his wife, Peggy Long Kirkland; four children, Matt Kirkland of Franklin, NC, Randy Kirkland of Danridge, TN, Lisa Rutherford of Tomball, TX, and Betsy Cleveland of Winter Haven, FL; two stepsons, Buster Marrall, Jr. of GA, and Greg Marrall of FL; one brother, Horace Kirkland of Auburndale, FL; and one sister, Ellen Osborn of Tallahassee, FL. He also has twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews surviving.
A Celebration of Life will be 1pm on Saturday, December 16 at Holly Springs Baptist Church.
