James Wesley Henry, age 86, of Franklin, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in Catawba County.
Born in Macon County to the late Don and Laura Bryson Henry, James lived a life marked by service, curiosity, and devotion to family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later dedicated his career to public safety as a U.S. Park Police Officer before retiring and settling back in Franklin.
A man of many passions, James was a devoted member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church and an avid Civil War history enthusiast. He spent countless hours exploring with his metal detector, uncovering relics of the past. His love for antiques reflects his appreciation of history and his mountain cabin "the greenhouse" was always his special place.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby Henry; his brother, Boyd Henry; and his parents. He is survived by his daughters, Devonne Jimison (Danny) and Denise Wright (Roland); grandchildren, Danielle Ayala (Juan), Drake Jimison (Kennedy), Ashlyn Icenhour (Matthew), and Weston Wright; and great-grandchild, Wilder Ayala. He also leaves behind siblings Don Henry Jr, John Henry (Louise), Mary Ruth Curtis, and Nancy Pitts; two sisters-in-laws, Marlene Williams and Jewell Young; along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held at Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, where James will be laid to rest among the hills he loved.
His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the treasures he found, and the family he held dear.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mountain Grove Baptist Church.
