On September 17, 2025, the Elliott family gathered around their husband, father, and grandfather, Harold Edwin Elliott, as he left this world just as he lived in it—with love, dignity, and a touch of humor.
Born Christmas Day, 1940, Harold grew up with the mountains of Western North Carolina in his heart, a place he always knew he'd come home to. He began his career with the FBI in 1960 as a fingerprint technician, later achieving his goal of becoming an FBI Special Agent. In 1966, Harold joined the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, where his dedication, leadership, and sharp mind led him from agent to District Supervisor, and ultimately Deputy Director. One of his proudest accomplishments was overseeing the SBI Crime Lab's national accreditation, making it one of the first two in the nation.
But Harold was more than his career. He was a storyteller, a gardener, a football fan, a beach wanderer, a music lover, and an animal friend. His stories—always told with perfect comedic timing—could light up a room. His humor and warmth left a mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Harold is survived by his wife and partner in life, Brenda Elliott; their five daughters—Teresa Hyatt (Wayne), Kris Keith (Bill), Lynn Coley (Terry), Jan Muxworthy (Jay), and Rachel Embler (Terry); 14 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren who adored him. He was preceded in death by his beloved sons, Rik Elliott and Michael Elliott. His family was his greatest joy, and they will forever carry with them his strength, laughter, and love.
He has returned to the mountains he loved, and his legacy will continue to grow—like the gardens he tended—with every life he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 18th at 3pm at Lifespring Community Church. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund will be established in Harold's honor, with details to follow.
