David Eugene "Gene" Russell of Clayton, Alabama, formerly of Franklin, NC, went home to be with the Lord on November 19, 2023. Gene was born January 11, 1944, in Macon County, to the late James and Rosalee Russell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Cordelia Russell. He was also preceded in death by Mary Champion Russell, his wife of 57 years.

He is survived by his Son, David Russell (Debbie) of Florida, and his daughter Linda Jones (John) of Franklin. He is also survived by four brothers and four sisters; Earl Russell (Lula) of Franklin; George Jenkins (Sue) of Franklin; Mary Sue Bettis of Franklin; Hazel Allen (Steve) of Franklin; Cathy Mills (DJ) of Atlanta, GA; Janie Key of Franklin; Lee Russell (Vernie) of Franklin; Fred Russell of Franklin. He is also survived by three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Gene was an active member of Clayton First Assembly of God in Clayton, Alabama, and enjoyed sharing about his Lord. He was a carpenter, electrician, and plumber by trade. He loved working on old cars and especially working with his son on his boat. He was an avid hunter and fisherman up to the time of his death. A celebration of life will be held at 10am, Saturday, December 23, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
